Airports
New York City is served by three major airports:

LaGuardia (physically the closest) in Queens

All the airports have easy access to Manhattan either via taxi, express bus, train, subway and/or other public transportation.  Travel time into mid-town Manhattan from any of the airports, depending on mode of travel and time of day, can take from 30 to 90 minutes.  For specific information, the following website will give you all the information you need:

Subways & Buses

Subways and most buses run 24 hours, 7 days a week. There are 25 subway lines designated either by a route number or a letter. These serve 468 stations along 714 miles of track. There are more than 5,800 air-conditioned cars that can take you almost anywhere in the city faster than a taxi at a fraction of the cost. The subways run every 2-5 minutes during the rush hour and 10-15 minues at other times There are more than 4,300 air-conditioned buses on over 200 routes to almost anywhere in New York City. Bus stops are located about every 2 blocks on street corners.


Metrocard
The flat $2.25 subway/bus fare, no matter how long you ride, is payable with the convenient MetroCard, a prepaid, discounted card that offers free transfers from bus to subway, subway to bus, or bus to bus within two hours of the beginning of the ride. The MetroCard may be purchased at MetroCard Vending Machines in subway stations or in neighborhood stores. There are two types of MetroCards that you can use to pay for rides on the subways and buses: 1) 1 Day Fun-Pass Unlimited Ride - $8.25; Good for unlimited subway and local bus rides from first use until 3 a.m. the following day. 2) Pay-Per-Ride - Put $8 or more on your card and receive a 15 percent bonus. For example, a $20 purchase gives you $23 on your card. 10 trips for the price of 9, with $.50 balance. Refill your card to use the balance. Buses also accept exact change, but not dollar bills or pennies.
